This policy explains the information Daily Brief for YNAB uses to provide account access, connect to YNAB, deliver reports, and operate securely.

Account information

If you create an account, we collect your email address so you can sign in, reset your password, receive service messages, and receive the reports you configure.

Basic technical data

To protect the service from abuse and keep it running, the app may store basic technical information such as browser user agent, IP address, and timestamps.

First-party visit attribution

On a human visit to the public landing page, the app sets a signed, opaque first-party visitor cookie for up to 30 days. It may record the landing path, referring site without its query or fragment, UTM campaign fields, and a Daily Brief campaign token. If you create an account in that period, the app may associate the first and latest landing source with the account to measure signup conversion. This attribution does not store your name, email address, or raw IP address; any optional landing IP fingerprint is one-way HMAC hashed. Bots and analytics-excluded requests are omitted from reported human metrics.

YNAB authorization and plan data

Daily Brief for YNAB requests read-only access to the YNAB plan you choose. It never asks for bank credentials. The app uses plan data to create your email brief, including recently posted transactions, account balance changes, category information, and spending averages selected in your settings.

How YNAB data is used

YNAB data is used only to generate the email briefings you configure, operate the service, troubleshoot delivery problems, maintain security, and improve the product. Daily Brief for YNAB does not sell YNAB data, use it for advertising, or knowingly pass it to third parties except to service providers needed to operate the app.

Report engagement measurement

Report emails may include a small first-party image and signed first-party links so the service can measure approximate opens and meaningful link clicks. Opens are estimates because mail apps may block or automatically load images. These events use only the account, delivery, link-action, trial-cohort, and communication-version identifiers needed for funnel analysis. They do not include transaction details, balances, categories, payees, or other report contents. Bots, admin activity, test messages, previews, and analytics-excluded requests are omitted from these conversion metrics.

Storage and retention

The app may store account settings, recipient email addresses, delivery preferences, selected category groups, reported transaction identifiers, report delivery logs, and authorization tokens needed to keep the service working. YNAB plan details are retained only as needed to provide the configured briefing, operate the service, troubleshoot issues, maintain security, or meet legal obligations. If the app changes how it accesses or uses YNAB data, this policy will be updated before the changed use is applied.

Sharing

We do not sell account emails or YNAB data. Service providers such as hosting, database, email delivery, payment, monitoring, and DNS providers may process data only as needed to run, secure, and protect the service.

Deletion and removal

To revoke account access or request deletion of stored app data, use Support in the signed-in app or reply to any Daily Brief for YNAB service email.

Security

The service uses YNAB OAuth authorization instead of bank credentials. YNAB access and refresh tokens are stored server-side and encrypted in production. The app also uses HTTPS, rate-limited authentication endpoints, security headers, and database access controls to help protect service data.

Relationship to YNAB

Daily Brief for YNAB is an independent service and is not affiliated with, associated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to YNAB or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates. YNAB and You Need A Budget, along with related names, trade names, marks, trademarks, emblems, and images, are registered trademarks of YNAB. Visit the official YNAB website.
